1. What makes the Certificate in Hedge Fund Regulation (CHFR) designation unique?
The CHFR designation is unique as it is the hedge fund industry's first and only regulatory certification. It also has a cross-jurisdictional approach which means it is truly global. Once the candidate has passed the final exam they will be entitled to use the CHFR designation.
2. Who is the CHFR designation designed for?
The CHFR is a foundation course designed for all professionals from compliance & legal to sales & marketing. It is also designed for those in the industry from hedge fund managers to prime brokers administrators custodians law firms accountancy firms and other consultancy firms. The CHFR represents a minimum level of regulatory understanding that all employees within the industry should possess.
3. How long will the course material take to complete before I am ready to sit the CHFR exam?
Depending on your regulatory experience within the hedge fund industry to date the typical time expected for students to complete the course and prepare for the exam is approximately 25 to 30 hours.
4. Does it matter in which jurisdiction I live to earn the CHFR designation?
No. The CHFR program has been developed by academics and industry professionals across the EU and US. It addresses issues that the global industry faces and is not jurisdiction-specific.
5. How much does the CHFR program cost?
The CHFR program costs €750 (special offer: now only €500) and includes online access to the course through the Hedge Fund College website as well as free online access to Bloomberg Law.
6. What methods of payment are accepted for the CHFR fees?
We accept web or fax-based credit card orders payment by cheque or Paypal. We also can invoice an organisation.
7. When and how do I register for the exam once I have completed the CHFR course material?
As the CHFR program is delivered online you may register at any point in time giving you the freedom to study and take the final exam at your own pace and when it is convenient to you. To register for the program please go to the Courses page.
8. Are any books required to study for the CHFR designation exams?
No books are required for the CHFR designation exams. All material is contained in the online course accessible through the Hedge Fund College website. Also all news articles journals and videos are accessible either through the Hedge Fund College site or through Bloomberg Law to which each student receives free access.
9. What result do I need to pass the exam?
The passing rate for CHFR is 70%. Although there are 8 modules with an exam at the end of each module it is only the final exam at the end of the program that counts towards your CHFR certificate result.
10. What happens if I do not pass the exam? Can I retake it? Do I have access to the online course material again?
Yes if you have failed the CHFR exam you may take it again. A fee of €500 is charged to retake the course and resit the exam.
11. Are there any prerequisites for acceptance to the CHFR program?
There are no requirements that you need to fulfil to be accepted to the CHFR program. This course is a foundation course and is designed as an introduction to hedge fund regulation and its current issues.
12. When does testing occur and when should I expect to get my CHFR exam results back?
Your exam is a one hour 40 multiple choice exam that can be taken at any time after you have finished the mandatory 8 modules of the program. Once you submit your exam it will give you your result immediately so you know whether you have passed.
13. How and when do I receive the CHFR certificate after I pass the exam?
Students who successfully complete the CHFR exam will be sent a hard copy of their certificate by mail to the address they have nominated. This should take no more than 10 working days.
14. Is there a time requirement on completing the CHFR program?
Yes. A candidate has 6 months from the date of registration to complete all modules of the program plus sit the final exam.
15. As an employer why should I hire someone who has earned the CHFR designation or why should an existing employee study the CHFR program?
A person who has completed the CHFR program has learnt the foundation issues involved in hedge fund regulation and has demonstrated a minimum level of regulatory understanding. As a firm this designation held by employees will demonstrate to investors clients and regulators that the firm has attained a certain level of regulatory understanding.
